In "Sankofa, pe yu kumba-tee beri, drape yu oso de," I invite the viewer to step into "oso," my home.
In the past year, I was told that my umbilical cord is buried in Suriname. After hearing this, I understood the longing for my birth country, Suriname. This has also been the catalyst for me to explore more about my own identity. Last March, I traveled back to Suriname, and during my stay, I realized the importance of family and the longing for a sense of "home."
Discover the journey I, as an artist, have undertaken to learn more about my own identity by combining archival materials with illustration, photography, video, and textiles in a spatial installation.
